Graham Smith Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I'm keen to get a lead for VAG COM and the relevant software. I've looked on eBay, and there's obviously a lot of people selling the required items, but there's so many I'm a bit confused! On the first one I looked at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-Diagnostic-Tool-...1QQcmdZViewItem This guy's selling one for Quote
mattc Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Graham, I bought this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220166176356 off the bay and it works fine, but don't forget you only get limited software and if need the whole shooting match you will need to buy the complete software package off ROSS TECH which I believe to be around 50quid.Cheers Matt. Graham Smith Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 But presumably, the cable off that ebay auction you pointed me to is OK, then hopefully I'll be able to 'mump' the full-blown software from somewhere? Is this right, or does it mean that if I only the limited software, then that cable will only be good for the limited software? Regards Quote

tdi90 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 I brought a cheapy cable off ebay and am having loads of problems getting the thing to work  running vista on me laptop, and am thinking that vista could be the problem.I'm running vagcom 409.1 in xp sp2 mode, but it wont connect to the car. Just keeps coming up with 'no response from controller' when trying to scan. The lead is in port 3 of the lappy, and using port 3 on vagcom. It states theres a lead there, but does'nt confirm that the lappy is connected to the car. Does any one have any hints and tips for me to get it working? (pretty please?) Quote
mattc Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Try the Richards post in the FAQ's about the com port problems, that should do the trick, as it worked for me... And yes, it's a gamble if the lead works or not, but I've bought two from eBay without any problems so far. As for the software, what kind of problem are you having for the Vag-com to solve? Cheers Matt Quote
tdi90 Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Sorted! un installed the lot (for the 5th time), re installed, then it all started working. No problems as such (bar maf which dealers gonna change), but warranty is due to run out in March, so wanna make sure i can check f/codes and get it back to the dealer for repair  Quote

Will this bit of kit work for a Ford 2.3 auto Mk11? Engine Mangement light is on and although the car runs fine it would be nice to find out the problem(s) without going to Main Stealers. Any help appreciated - also if it does work is anybody near Luton with VAG COM. Regards Quote
bigdaddy Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Comhander, sorry NO the 2.3 engine is Ford and vag-com does not talk to the engine Quote

Graham Smith Posted January 13, 2008 Author Report Posted January 13, 2008 So if I buy a 'cheapie' VAG COM thing from ebay, what sort of things won't the software do in comparison to the full-blown version that costs about Quote
mattc Posted January 13, 2008 Report Posted January 13, 2008 Not sure on turning it back on, but I know you can clear the fault codes on the heater, so I'm guessing it should. Don't forget it's only 12quid and you could always flog it on eBay if you're not happy.Cheers Matt. Quote
